Can you put new lenses in my old frame?

Unfortunately, we currently do not offer this service (called re-glazing).

What is a lens index?

Lens indexes are based on the refractive power a material carries; as the index number gets higher, the refractive power of the material increases. A lens with a higher refractive index will be thinner compared to lower indexes. People with heavy prescriptions often opt for higher index lenses, because these reduce the thickness and the weight of the lens. A detailed explanation of lens indexes and the kinds we carry can be found here.

Which lens is best for my prescription?

Most other websites only offer a choice of 10 to 20 lenses, but we have over 450 different lenses available to our customers; the largest lens selection online in the world!

In order to help you narrow down the selections, our website will automatically calculate which lens would be best suited for you during the checkout process, based on things like your prescription, whether or not you want sunglasses, and what purpose your lens will serve (progressive, bifocal, single vision, etc.).

Does Visio-Rx offer sunglasses?

Definitely, any one of our frames can be turned into sunglasses. On the first checkout screen (where you enter your prescription, simply indicate that you want sunglasses in your chosen frame. For detailed information on the various sunglass lenses Visio-Rx offers, click here.

Do you offer polarized, photochromic, Transitions® or Drivewear® sunglass lenses?

Yes, we do. We have the largest selection of sunglass lenses out of any other online-based glasses store:

  1. Solid tinted lenses
  2. Gradient tinted lenses
  3. Adnuo® Sunsensors (photochromic)
  4. Transitions® VI (photochromic)
  5. Transitions® XTRActive (photochromic)
  6. Adnuo® Polarized
  7. Nupolar® (polarized)
  8. Drivewear®

For detailed information about our sunglass options, please click here.

Can I order glasses without prescription lenses?

Of course! During checkout, indicate that you use your glasses for fashion only during check out.

Can I order sunglasses without prescription?

Absolutely. On the first checkout screen, select "Fashion Only" for your glasses use, then select that you want to see sunglass options.

Which coatings are included with my glasses?

Every lens we sell comes with the all the recommended coatings:

  • Anti-reflection (AR)
  • Anti-scratch (hard coating)
  • Electromagnetic interference shield (EMI)
  • UV protection
  • Basic hydrophobic

At other stores, you would pay top dollar to have all these coatings included on your lenses.

Learn more about lens coatings here.

How are progressive lenses different from bifocals?

Progressive lenses are lenses with multiple powers, but without the lines that separate them. These lenses allow a maturing eye to be accommodated without making the wearer look old-fashioned. This revolutionary lens allows people to look as young as they feel!

Watch this video for a short explanation:

How do you calculate the segment height (seg) for multifocal and progressive lenses?

We don't want to rely on the PD and frame formula based on averages that many other sites use; no one is the same, and a mathematical formula without personal information can easily calculate wrong values for an individual product like glasses.

When you place your order, we will ask for a couple of pictures from you that our lab uses to calculate the ideal placement of your lenses. These pictures are simple to take and help you make sure that your lenses will be fitted based on your personal measurements, not averages.

And, as a bonus, we use these same pictures to pre-adjust your frame to your face.

To read instructions on taking these pictures, please click here.

What standards do you use for fitting lenses?

Some of our customers would like to have their online glasses checked by an optician. For the optician to do a correct evaluation, he will need to clearly understand which norms have been applied. Please Below we provide the standards which our lab uses to determine the mounting  of the lenses in the frame.

Horizontal Fitting

  • If left and right (monocular) PD values have been provided: use these
  • In case only 1 PD value has been provided: divide by 2 to arrive at monocular PD values

Vertical Fitting (in case customer has provided pictures to facilitate calculation)

For spherical lenses (most Adnuo 1.50, Trivex 1.53, Adnuo 1.57, Xirm 1.58, Polycarbonate 1.59 stock lenses, all Optimo and all Visiero lenses are spherical):

  • Measure PD based on images uploaded
  • Minimum distance from top of the frame to optical center is 10mm
  • Lenses are never fitted lower than at 50% of the total lens height.

For aspherical lenses (some Xirm 1.58, and all Adnuo 1.61, Adnuo 1.67 and Adnuo 1.74 stock lenses are aspherical):

  • A correction for lower placement of aspherical lenses is applied. Click here to download a copy of the applicable table.
  • As a side note: should the optician not be aware of the need of the correction for placement of aspherical lenses (many are not), please look for a professional optician to do the verification measurements of your new pair of glasses.

In case the customer has not provided pictures to enable Visio-Rx to measure true fitting height, our lab bases the fitting height on averages. For each frame an average fitting height is calculated by letting various people wear the frame. Though not as a crude as the 50% of total lens height applied by many optical websites, our averages-system is not as accurate as when a customer uploads actual pictures.
