Video text transcript

Have you ever been lured into a shop with promises of low priced glasses, yet walked out spending much more than you intended?

More often than not, these promotions are accompanied by many restrictions, limitations and hidden charges. Let's give a few examples.

When a shop advertises low price frames, you can expect to have to choose from a very limited selection that is made up of cheap quality frames, and you still pay the full amount for lenses.

Buy one, get one free promotions often require you to select your free frames from a limited and low quality selection, and deliver lenses without coatings.

An advertisement calling for free lenses with the purchase of a frame will only include a low index, which is inappropriate for heavy prescriptions, and the lenses will not have any coatings.

Also, when you choose a semi-rimless or rimless frame, a higher quality lens is required at excessive prices.

Free sunglasses with purchase of a regular pair? You can probably guess by now: cheap quality and poor selection of frames, uncoated lenses. Shops want you to purchase their upgrades.

Upon seeing an offer for free progressive lenses, beware: usually the design offered is the outdated 1980s progressive, which is significantly inferior to todays freeform progressives.

If a free eye exam is offered, make sure to read the fine print. You'll find out that the exam is only free if you purchase your new glasses at the store.

Most stores don't accept any type of vision insurance or let you combine offers when taking advantage of their promotion.

An offer for 0% financing may seem like a great deal, but beware that it usually can't be combine with other offers, and a minimum payment applies. If a payment is missed, the agreement is no longer valid, and will be subject to penalties and extremely high interest rates.

Even a nice, fixed amount offered as a discount is tricky: the very high manufacturer's suggested retail prices are used to price the glasses, so you still wind up paying an outrageous amount for your glasses.

At Visio-Rx, we always offer you the lowest possible prices for the best quality. There are no hidden extras for coatings, shipping is a fixed price for your entire order, and any lens upgrades are very reasonable priced.

We do not believe in running "special" discount offers, as they only mean that customers would be paying too much without the discounts.

Our prices are among the most competitive in the market - period. We invite you to compare our prices to those of the competition, whether they are web shops or brick-and-mortar stores.</video:description>

<video:title>Progressive Lenses Explained - Top Freeform ('Backside') Progressives for Your Eyewear.</video:title>
<video:description>All progressive glasses lenses at http://www.visio-rx.com

Progressive lenses, also known as no-line bifocals, are multifocal lenses that don't have the obvious dividing line that bifocals and trifocals have. Progressive lenses are typically used by people over the age of 40, because around that age people notice that they need a little bit of extra power to be able to read clearly. These lenses correct 3 zones of vision in 1 lens: distance vision, intermediate (computer) vision, and near vision. All of our progressive lenses are of the most modern freeform ('backside') variety.

Video text transcript

Progressive lenses are multifocal lenses, meaning they correct 3 vision zones in 1 lens: near, intermediate, and far vision.

Bifocal lenses have an obvious dividing line that can make a person look older than they really are.

Progressives don't have this dividing line, which creates a more youthful appearance.

They are produced in such a way that the transition between zones is much smoother than with bifocal or trifocal glasses, which have solid dividing lines between zones.

Progressive lenses provide a superior vision correction experience, and come in many varieties. For more information, please see our videos.</video:description>

Progressive lens designs have changed a lot since their introduction.

This RX progressive lens design, with the power distribution on the front, was introduced in the 1980s. Note the narrowness of the design and the extreme distortion on the sides.

In the 1990s lens manufacturers come out with a decent RX progressive. Note the lens has a wider design and less distortion on the sides.

Around the turn of the millenium, lens manufacturers achieve a breakthrough with freeform progressives. The power distribution sits on the back of the lens, closer to the eye. Note the even wider design and even less distorted outer edges

In 2005, the first fully personalized freeform progressives are introduced. This top of the line design utilizes almost the entire lens, and distortion is virtually eliminated.

Visio-Rx does not carry the inferior RX designs. We are commited to delivering top quality products, and as such only offer the freeform and fully personalized progressive lenses at the best prices you can find. Guaranteed.</video:description>

Visio-Rx is the first glasses website that offers specialized progressives. In this video we show you our Sport DRP lenses, which are optimized for sports. There are two types: the iSport DRP and the dSport DRP. If you are a progressive wearer, you have probably noticed that sometimes you have to tilt your head at weird angles to be able to see certain things. Both Sport DRP progressive lenses eliminate these weird movements by adjusting certain zones of the lens in order to optimize the vision needed in sports.

Video text transcript

Nowadays, progressive lens wearers practice more and more sports, and it was only a matter of time until a sports-specific progressive lens was created.

Visiero Sport DRP are lenses with emphasis on distance and intermediate vision, with a small area for near vision.

Visio-Rx offers 2 types of Sport progressive designs: the iSport-DRP and the dSport-DRP.

Both sports lenses have large distance and intermediate vision areas, and a very small near zone.

In the dSport lens, the distance portion is slightly larger.

Whereas in the iSport lens, the intermediate portion is slightly larger.

These lenses are not recommended for everyday use because of the very limited near vision zone.

iSport-DRP lenses have a large area for far vision, so you can properly aim the ball to score the winning point.

Intermediate vision takes up the largest area of the lens, to give you clear vision for returning the volley.

And a small area for near vision, so you can still see your watch to get home in time for dinner.

Distance vision is takes up the largest portion of the lens in the dSport-DRP design, so you can focus all your attention on potential hazards ahead.

A large intermediate zone gives you the ability to clearly see obstacles in time to maneuver over them.

This lens also has a small area for near vision, to help you properly read your stopwatch.

Playing sports with your everyday progressive lenses may require an unnatural position of the head in order to see through the proper part of the lens.

Both Sport DRP lenses will allow for an ergonomic position of the head and body while playing sports.

DRP means that these lenses are fully personalized, creating perfect vision in any part of the lens so you can see a ball coming at you from the corner of your eye.

You change your outfit to be prepared for your favorite sport, so why not include your glasses? Visiero® iSport and dSport lenses are a winning choice.</video:description>

Lenses are available in different indexes. As a material's index increases, its ability to refract light increases as well, which means that higher index materials produce thinner lenses. Watch this video to find out more, and don't forget to use the 3D Lens Viewer on our website. During the check out process it is to see exactly how thick a lens will be!

Video text transcript

What does lens index mean?

The word "index" refers to a materials refraction index: the way light bends as it passes through the material.

Different lens materials have different ways of bending the light. As the index increases, the ability to bend light increases.

Standard crown glass which was used for almost all glasses in the past has an index of 1.52. The modern plastic materials have indexes between 1.50 and 1.74.

Lenses get thicker as they get more powerful. Higher index lenses can help you have thinner lenses, even if you have a strong prescription.

1.50 Index lenses are fine for low prescriptions, but get thick quickly as prescription increases.

You may choose a mid-index lens, such as a 1.6 index lens, if you have a prescription that is medium strength.

For very strong prescriptions, high index lenses, such as 1.67 or 1.74 index, will reduce the weight and thickness of the lens.

Lens material characteristics also vary. Some lens materials are less appropriate for semi rimless and rimless frames, for instance.

The advantage of higher index lenses is that they are lighter and thinner. Thin lenses are associated with a more elegant look, whereas thick lenses often denote less of a sense for style.

Lens upgrades tend to be very costly in an optical shop. With our modest prices for lens upgrades, you can now look your best, without breaking the bank.

To make your shopping more convenient, we'll make recommendations for you, and provide you with the possibility to compare shape, thickness and weight for lenses of your choice.

         <video:description>Fashion rimless frames at http://www.visio-rx.com

Not all lens materials have properties that are appropriate for rimless glasses. This is because some materials are more brittle than others; they can break when drilling the holes for the frame mounts. Or, during use, are prone to cracking around the area where the frame is mounted on the lens. Find out which materials are not recommended and which are in this video.

You will not be disappointed!

Video text transcript

Rimless glasses are gaining popularity, especially since this style tends to almost disappear on your face due to the lack of material around the lenses.

Because there is no extra frame material, the bridge and temples of a rimless frame are mounted directly onto the lenses.

In order to secure the frame, holes must be drilled into the lens material.

Unfortunately, not all lens materials are appropriate for this type of drilling and mounting.

Materials such as standard index 1.5 and mid index 1.57 are prone to cracking around the drill holes.

which is why we recommend against choosing these materials.

All our other materials are appropriate for rimless glasses, and can be chosen with confidence.

Not all glasses are created equally. When you need glasses for sports use or for children, it is highly recommended to get glasses that have superb shatter resistance properties. Not all materials have these properties; therefore, Visio-Rx recommends materials like Xirm, Trivex and polycarbonate. In the event that your lenses get too thick using any of these materials, index 1.67 would be an appropriate alternative. Watch the video to find out more.

Adequate protection is important when it comes to sports and children.

Helmets, pads and guards of all sorts are used to protect our children and ourselves from harm while playing and competing. Make sure that the eyes aren't overlooked.

Accidents or collisions can cause the lenses in glasses to shatter. Needless to say that things like this can cause injuries, and even blindness.

For this reason, it's crucial to select an impact and shatter resistant lens material for glasses that are intended for a child or for sports.

Polycarbonate, Trivex and TVXi are recommended for youth or sports glasses, because of their impact and shatter resistance.

These materials are incredibly strong, lightweight, and offer protection from harmful UV rays.

Focusing on the important things is much easier when you know that your eyes, and your child's eyes, are properly protected.</video:description>

Bifocals are multifocal lenses with 2 zones: Distance vision and a segment for near vision. There is no intermediate zone in a bifocal lens.

There are several styles of bifocal lenses, each with their pros and cons. Examples of bifocals are:

The D-style,

The visible round segment,

The invisible round segment,

And the executive bifocal.

To find out more about the characteristics of the various lenses, please consult the information table on our website.

People like to look their youngest. However, bifocals may give an older appearance as the line of the reading segment is clearly visible.

In most cases, progressive lenses are a better solution, both from a performance and cosmetic standpoint.

We know that different people have different preferences, so we provide both solutions.</video:description>

Today's top technology for progressive lenses is called 'digital freeform'. These are the progressive lenses which will cost an arm and a leg when bought in an optical store. But not at Visio-RX. In fact, these are the only progressives we offer (with an upgrade to fully personalized possible).

RX progressives have the power distribution on the front of the lens.

Freeform progressive lenses have the prescription on the back side of the lens. The advantage of this is that the power distribution sits closer to the eye.

With an average distance between lens and eye of 12mm, and an average lens thickness of 2mm, this results in a 17% wider field of vision.

This is known as the "keyhole effect". RX progressives have a smaller keyhole to see through.

By bringing the prescription closer to your eye, the free form progressives allow you to much more.</video:description>

<video:description>Eyewear Glasses for Near Vision at http://www.visio-rx.com

The way the eye adapts to up close vision is extraordinary: the eye flexes the crystalline lens, thus becoming more powerful optically and being able to change blurry vision into clear vision. This is called accommodation. The deterioration of this process also serves as an explanation as to why people need glasses for near vision later in life.

Video text transcript

Whether you have perfect vision or glasses, looking in the distance can be done without accommodation of the eyes.

When an object, such as a book, is brought close to your eyes, accommodation is needed to bring the book into focus.

Your eyes will converge slightly towards your nose in order to look properly at the book.

In order to make the light rays end up on the retina, the eyes need to do more than just converge.

When your eyes accommodate, the natural eye lens will become thicker in the middle and more powerful optically to bend light rays even more so they end up on the retina.

This remarkable ability allows you to see clearly up close.

As the human eye ages, this ability decreases, due to the continual lengthening of the chrystalline lens.

Once the lens has grown so long that it's no longer taut, the accomodative reflect can no longer occur.

This is the reason people need reading glasses or a reading zone put into their glasses to assist with near vision as they get older.</video:description>

<video:title>What does "20/20 Vision" mean? Optimal Vision With your Spectacles Glasses.</video:title>
         <video:description>"Optimal Vision Eyewear at http://www.visio-rx.com

The term is used all the time, but what exactly does it mean? 20/20 vision is a term relating to the way visual acuity is determined. Visual acuity refers to the clearness of your vision. This number is determined sometime during a routine eye exam, by use of a Snellen chart (one with rows of different letters of varying sizes) or a ""tumbling E chart"" (with E's facing in various directions and sizes).

While we commonly think of 20/20 as 'perfect vision'. you can have better than perfect vision. View this video to find out how.

You hear the term all the time, but what does 20/20 vision actually mean?

20/20 means that you can see at 20 feet away what a person with normal sight can see at 20 feet. The number is an indication of your visual acuity.

If you can only see the top E, that means you can see at 20 feet what a person with normal sight can see at 200 feet. This is called 20/200 vision.

If you can read this row, you have 20/40 vision: Normal sight sees at 40 feet what you see at 20 feet.

When you are able to read this row (called 20/10 vision), it means that you can see at 20 feet what normal sight can see at 10 feet. This means you have exceptional sight.

The first number refers to the 20 feet you are away from the chart. Even if the chart isn't 20 feet from you, the chart is scaled to look like it's 20 feet away through the use of projectors and mirrors.

This number always refers to "normal sight". The bigger the letters, the bigger the number. The smaller the letters you can read on the chart from 20 feet away, the better your visual acuity is.

Your visual acuity is usually measured with and without corrective measures, to verify that the prescription is sufficient.</video:description>

<video:title>Long vs Short Corridors (in Progressive Lenses). Multifocal Lenses for Most Glasses Frames.</video:title>
<video:description>All progressive eyewear choices at http://www.visio-rx.com

When it's time to buy a new pair of glasses, many people that wear progressive lenses hear about long corridors and short corridors. But what does this mean?

The corridor refers to the section that connects the far and near vision segments. When ""short corridor"" progressive lens designs were introduced, the selection of frames that users could choose from was vastly increased. Shortening the corridor allows the progressive design to fit into narrower frames than what was previously possible.

Video text transcript

A larger frame used to be required for RX style progressive glasses in order to accommodate the whole lens design inside the frame.

Smaller frames were unable to properly fit this progressive design.

Short corridor progressive lenses were developed to allow consumers to select smaller frames when ordering progressive lenses.

Short corridor" and "long corridor" refers to the intermediate vision part of the design, which is in between the distance vision and the near vision.

By making this corridor longer or shorter, the RX progressive lens can be fit into a wider variety of frames.

Please be advised that short corridor lenses do cut parts away from your intermediate (computer) correction in the lens.

But, if fashion and style are important to you, it is a small sacrifice to make.</video:description>

Not all progressive glasses are created equally. If your "anytime" glasses are giving you grief, maybe getting a pair of personalized office lenses will help.

The nature of all progressive glasses is that they have a limited zone for work at the intermediate distance.

And the placement of the intermediate zone often results in an unnatural position behind the screen.

For most people that have office bound work, all of our work happens in a zone in our near proximity.

You could get a SV lens that provides optimal viewing of the screen. But you would not be able to read nearby, or to see beyond the computer screen.

An optimal solution would be our OP office lenses., with very large intermediate and near zones.

These provide excellent vision for your nearby activities.

While still providing good vision up to 4 meters (depending on your prescription)

Office lenses give you excellent seamless vision and will do away with your neck or muscle cramps, headaches, dry or tired eyes or a general sense of fatigue.

Obviously, these lenses will serve you well for any activities where you need wide near and intermediate vision for extended periods of time.

A pair of glasses that you can use for all of your professional activities. And finally at an affordable price.</video:description>

This will only work if your frame is made out of metal.
This will only work if your frame has a plastic ear tip (a plastic cover on the end).
This will only work if your temple is all one thickness (once the plastic tip is removed).

Also, flip the frame around to distribute the heat from the blowdryer between the front and the back of the frame.

Use extreme care when pushing the lens back into the frame.

Always keep the pressure along the edges, pushing the outside edge of the lens in first, and the inside edge last.

You will need

1. Your broken glasses
2. A bottle of pure acetone (available
    at most hardware stores).

Carefully pour acetone into the cap of the bottle.
BEWARE: ACETONE IS VERY FLAMMABLE!.

Carefully set your broken glasses in the acetone.

Let the frame soak for 2 minutes.

After 2 minutes, take the glasses out of the acetone.

The acetone has softened the acetate, allowing you to fuse the glasses back together.

Apply equal pressure to both sides and hold the pieces together until they are stuck together without aid.

Now, the frame needs to dry for 24 hours.

24 hours later...

Once the glasses are dry, you may want to smooth the area where the glasses were fused together.

To do this, simply dip your finger in acetone and gently
rub out the uneven areas of the frame.

While doing this, be extremely careful not to spill acetone on the lenses, as this may ruin the lens coating.

<video:title>Difference Between Acetate and Plastic Optical Frames: Acetate for premium eyewear frames.</video:title>
         <video:description>Inexpensive Quality Glasses at http://www.visio-rx.com

A quick way to distinguish plastic or TR-90 frames from acetate ones. This is not a 100% guaranteed way of telling the difference, but it is correct most of the time.

Acetate is a premium material, and much preffered over regular ('cheap') plastic. TR-90 is a bit better than plastic, but Acetate is hard to beat. Its lustre and strength really beats the other 2 materials. If your budget allows it, we recommend spending a few more dollars and go for the cream of the crop.

Plastic and TR-90

The nose pads are the same color as the frame.
This is because these materials are injection molded.

Acetate

Most acetate frames have clear end pieces on the nose pads, because these frames are cut from sheets of acetate.

The clear end pieces are attached to the frame shortly prior to molding the frame. Afterwards, the frames are hand polished.

You will need

1. Your frame 2. A blowdryer

If your frame normally lays flat on a table, and is currently
wobbly, the bridge may need adjusting.

Assess which temple sits higher. The higher side will be
adjusted back to sit even with the other temple.

Use a blowdryer to warm the frame. Make sure to move the blowdryer around to encourage even heating.

Never hold the blowdryer in one spot too long, as this may
melt or damage the acetate, plastic or TR-90 material.

Grip the frame firmly as shown, and start applying pressure to gently twist the higher temple down to meet the lower.

Always use firm, but gentle pressure to avoid breaking the
frame. Be careful not to twist too far the opposite direction!

Your glasses are no longer crooked!

Grab a firm hold of the glasses, close to the screw you
wish to adjust, as shown.

Tilt the glasses and adjust the screw as needed.

 Scenario 2. Don't do this:

Do not adjust the screws on the bridge or nose pads without firmly supporting the lens and the bridge.

Instead, do this:

Firmly grasp the lens as shown, making sure your index finger is supporting the bridge. Slide the screwdriver along your thumbnail.

Failure to hold the frame or screwdriver properly may lead
to scratching your lens, or injuring yourself.

Sunglasses come in many different styles. Which type is best suited for you?

Solid tints can be applied to almost any lens. A solid tint is the same intensity all throughout the lens, and is an effective and low cost sunglass option.

Gradient tinting is a fashionable version of tinted lenses. These lenses are dark at the top, and gradually fade to lighter at the bottom of the lens. Gradient tinting can also be applied to almost any lens.

Photochromic lenses, such as Transitions®, are clear indoors.

Outside, the lenses will turn dark. The darkening is activated by UV rays from the sun.

Unfortunately, these lenses do not work very well while driving a car, because the windshield will block much of the UV rays.

Also, a photochromic lens can only tint to 73% darkness at the most. This may not be enough for people who are sensitive to bright sunlight.

Polarized lenses are very useful for people that spend a lot of time outdoors or in the car.

Polarized lenses will significantly reduce glare from the sun on water, snow, sand, and the hood of your car. This will offer you significantly improved vision compared to non-polarized lenses (photochromic, solid or gradient tinted).

However, in some cars polarized lenses may interfere with viewing LCD displays, like the ones used in GPS units, so always exercise caution.

Drivewear® lenses are specifically made for use in an automobile. These lenses combine the properties of polarized and photochromic lenses. In overcast weather, the lenses will be a light green to enhance vision.

Drivewear® lenses use both visible light and UV rays to change the color of the lenses. In bright conditions while driving, the lens will change to a medium brown.

And when you're out of the car, these lenses will darken even more in bright conditions, enabling you to see clearly no matter what lighting conditions are present.

Clip-on sunshades cause damage to your lenses, thus we strongly recommend not using these.

Magnetic sunshades are a great alternative, as these attach to the frame and not the lens.

Rest assured that all of our sunglasses have a UV-400 coating, meaning that 100% of UV rays that pass through the lens are blocked.

Different lenses have different properties and prices, so you're sure to find one that fits your needs and your budget.</video:description>

Polarized lenses make seeing much easier in bright and glary conditions.

We offer 2 brands of polarized lenses: Adnuo® Standard and NuPolar® by Younger Optics. Which one is right for you?

To determine that, let us first explain what makes a good polarized lens.

Polarizing efficiency, the amount of glare that is blocked, is the most important characteristic to look for.

A thin foil inside the lens is responsible for this polarizing effect. There is a large quality and price difference between various types of polarizing foils and lens production methods.

Foil placement is tricky and critical, and needs to be within .4 to .8 mm from the front of the lens for maximum optical clarity.

The ability to chemically adhere the polarizing film to the lens and keep from separating is important for the longevity of the lens.

Extended exposure to heat can change the color hue and intensity of the lenses, so color stability is crucial to proper long term usability.

Let's compare the Adnuo® and NuPolar® lenses.

Adnuo® Standard polarized lenses provide a good experience for occasional users at a very affordable price.

For intensive users or people who demand the best, we recommend NuPolar® lenses. These are simply a few notches above Adnuo® Standard polarized lenses.

Additionally, maximum darkness of standard colors for NuPolar lenses is higher than the maximum for Adnuo.

Both NuPolar and Adnuo lenses can be tinted up to 85% darkness for a small fee.

Whichever polarizing lens you choose, Visio-Rx fully warrants the quality of these brands.</video:description>

Photochromic lenses are clear indoors or at night, and become dark in sunny conditions.

We offer 2 brands of photochromic lenses: Adnuo® and Transitions®. Which one is right for you?

To determine that, let us first explain how photochromic lenses work.

Traditional photochromic technology is based on mixing UV reactive chemicals within the lens monomer.

This technology is proven to work well, but has its disadvantages. Mainly, the transition from clear to dark, and particularly dark to clear, is relatively long.

To address this concern, a new technology was developed by Transitions®.

This proprietary and unique process consist of applying a thin coating on the outside of the lens.

Since it is now only this thin layer that needs to change color, reaction time is significantly quicker.

Additionally, maximum darkness for Transition lenses is higher than the maximum for Adnuo photochromic lenses.

All the major lens manufacturers in the world own and use this patented process, which is why you see Transitions® being offered by Essilor, Hoya, Carl Zeiss, etc.

Due to the high tech process of producing Transitions® lenses, these have a higher price point than Adnuo® photochromic lenses.

So which one should you choose?

This really depends on your preferences and budget. Visio-Rx stands behind the quality of both brands.</video:description>

Photochromic lenses are clear indoors or at night, and become dark in sunny conditions.

Visio-Rx carries 2 types of Transitions® brand lenses: Transitions® VI and Transitions® XTRActive. What are the differences?

Transitions® VI lenses are tailored to people who spend more time indoors. XTRActive lenses are made for people who spend the majority of their time outdoors.

When inside, Transitions® VI stay completely clear. Transitions® XTRActive lenses retain a very slight tint.

Behind the wheel of a car, Transitions® VI lenses will remain clear. XTRActive lenses will activate moderately.

In bright sunlight, the difference is easy to see. Transitions® XTRActive lenses get much darker than the Transitions® VI.

Both lenses offer protection from harmful UV rays.

When returning indoors, Transitions® VI lenses will fade back to clear quickly, while XTRActive lenses take a little longer to get back to their lightest tint.

Different people have different needs, and choosing a photochromic lens is a personal choice. Whether you choose Transitions® VI or Transitions® XTRActive, Visio-Rx stands behind the quality of these lenses.</video:description>

<video:title>Single Vision Glasses: Perfect Vision For Younger People.</video:title>
         <video:description>Single vision eyewear at http://www.visio-rx.com

Single vision glasses only correct 1 vision zone at a time, whether that is near, intermediate, or far. Astigmatism can also be corrected with single vison glasses. These lenses are mainly worn by people under the age of approximately 40 that do not yet need a reading zone in their glasses, and are very affordable. Single vision lenses are most often made from stock lenses, but affordable upgrades to personalized lenses are available for discerning users.

A single vision lens has only one power.

It is the most basic lens available, and used by most glasses wearers under the age of 45.

Single vision lenses can correct near, intermediate or far vision, but only one zone per pair of glasses.

Basic single vision glasses utilize stock lenses. These lenses are mass produced, relatively inexpensive and work fine, but there are better options available.

New technology has created upgrades to the traditional single vision stock lenses, such as fully personalized lenses, Visiero® Acomoda anti-fatigue lenses, and extra thin Adnuo® Optimo plus lenses.

Fully personalized lenses provide perfect vision through any part of the lens.

Acomoda anti-fatigue lenses will help reduce the visual fatigue that you encounter throughout the day.

Optimo extra-thin plus lenses are created specifically for your prescription and selected frames, to offer plus lens wearers the thinnest possible lenses.

So, no matter what you decide on for your single vision needs, we've got you covered.</video:description>

Do you have a plus in front of the number in the SPH column of your prescription?

A plus prescription requires a plus lens.

Using a stock lens is the most economical solution, but often there is a big disadvantage.

When using a stock lens, the edges get thick quickly.

And the center of a plus lens is always thicker than the edges.

This phenomenon is determined by multiple factors: the size of your chosen frame, the diameter of the stock lens, your prescription and your PD.

Combined, this has potential for a thick, heavy and unattractive lens.

Thankfully, there is a solution.

The world's 2 largest lens suppliers call this solution Pre-cal or METS. Our preferred brand, Adnuo, calls it Optimo.

Optimo lenses are tailor made to your prescription and chosen frame, to provide you with the thinnest lens possible for your chosen lens index.

How will you know whether you will benefit from an Optimo lens?

When selecting your lenses, you can compare a stock lens with an Optimo lens on the 3D lens viewer and decide for yourself.

In a shop, this upgrade is rather expensive.

But here, the price certainly won't scare you into wearing unattractive lenses. Upgrading to an Adnuo Optimo lens is very affordable.</video:description>

         <video:description>Drive progressive glasses at http://www.visio-rx.com

Visio-Rx is the first glasses website that offers specialized progressives, optimized for driving. If you are a progressive wearer, you have probably noticed that sometimes you have to tilt your head at weird angles to be able to see certain things. Drive DRP progressive lenses eliminate these weird movements by expanding the distance and intermediate portions of the lens.

Video text transcript

Driving requires optimal vision in order to keep you and others safe on the road.

Visiero Drive DRP lenses provide perfect driving vision by expanding the far and intermediate areas of the lens.

The far area of the lens allows you to clearly see the road and other traffic.

The intermediate zone is expanded to make the switch from watching the road to checking the speedometer and GPS smoother.

This zone also helps you check your rear and side view mirrors without unnecessary head movements.

At the bottom of the lens there is a small near segment, which is perfect for checking a map or reading driving instructions.

So why are Drive DRP lenses better suited than my everyday progressives?

Good distance vision is crucial while driving, hence the enlarged far vision zone in a Drive DRP, compared to an everyday progressive.

As a progressive user, you've noticed that you need to tilt your head in exactly the right position to see clearly through the intermediate zone.

Drive DRP's larger intermediate zone makes it easy to focus on your dashboard and mirrors without searching.

However, these lenses are not recommended for everyday use, because of the very limited near vision zone.

Drive DRP lenses are fully personalized lenses, meaning perfect vision through any part of the lens so you can spot potential hazards even out of the corner of your eye.

Proper vision while driving is the most important way to keep your hard earned possessions and, most importantly, your loved ones safe.</video:description>

<video:title>Abbe Value: measure of clarity for lenses in glasses eyewear.</video:title>
<video:description>Clarity in your glasses at http://www.visio-rx.com

Abbe value is an important characteristic of lens materials for glasses. But what does it describe? Abbe value measures the optical clarity of a materials. The eye's Abbe value is between 45 and 50, and in this video we discuss the values of all our lens materials.

Selecting a lens with a high ABBE value may be advisable for people with sensitive eyes.

Video text transcript

Abbe value refers to the clarity of transparent materials.

Theoretically, perfect transparency is 100 on the Abbe scale, but because light travels through both the cornea and the crystalline lens, the Abbe value of the eye is between 45 and 50.

In an ideal world, the Abbe value of a lens should not be lower than that of the eye.

In practice, only 3 lens materials have Abbe values close to that of the eye.

All remaining lens materials have lower Abbe values.

Lower Abbe values can result in chromatic abberations as prescriptions increase.

Some people are more susceptible to chromatic abberations than others.

To mitigate this, you should try a material with a high Abbe value.

If your lenses get too thick, you may try a smaller frame which will reduce the thickness of your lens.

An additional solution is to order fully personalized lenses, which have optimal viewing in all directions.

If chromatic abberation is not an issue, you will be well served by any of our lens materials.</video:description>

Video text transcript

How is power determined on a lens?

Light refraction is determined by the curve on a lens.

A lens has two curves: a front curve and a back curve.

Lens power is determined by the net result of these curves.

Net power is obtained by subtracting the back curve from the front curve. This is an example of a plus lens: Front curve of 7 dioptres minus a back curve of 5 dioptres results in a +2 lens.

For a minus lens, the same equation applies. Thus, this lens results in a -3 power.

What can you do with this knowledge?

Maybe impress your friends with your this little tidbit. We love to share what we know.</video:description>
